Beechnut Sail asked 9 days agoThe county's contractor is contractually not permitted to do work on the inbound lanes of Browns Hill Road between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on weekdays. We know of at least one occasion when their work extended past 6 a.m., and we immediately addressed that issue. If it happens again, please let us know which date(s) the infraction(s) occurred.
Please note that that there is currently utility work occurring on Beechwood Boulevard between Browns Hill Road and Monitor Street. The county has no control over that project, and the utility company's contractor has been working during the morning commute.

Share How can this two lane , heavily traveled bridge , be jammed into 1 lane at the. top of Brownshill. This project outbound should be done at night. The traffic is horrendous and this project and traffic management is terrible.Has anybody taken the time to drive this bridge in the morning and make an educated decision as to how to remedy this unbelievable cluster of errors. Traffic is backed up up on 837 both directions and up West st. This is a daily occurrence, which seems to bother no one. Very poor management and traffic control. Very poor communication between the city and county and the poor people who have to get to work or school on time pay the price! This project should have been done at night. on Facebook Share How can this two lane , heavily traveled bridge , be jammed into 1 lane at the. top of Brownshill. Ken asked 30 days agoHi, Ken. Thanks for reaching out. The Homestead Grays Bridge and Browns Hill Road are the busiest county-owned structures, with more than 45,000 drivers using it daily. So, even when no construction is occurring, there are often backups on the bridge.
On August 18, the county began much-needed repairs and improvements on Browns Hill Road – the type that is required about once every 15-20 years. Since then, one of the two inbound lanes has been periodically closed from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and one of the two outbound lanes has been periodically closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays – avoiding rush hours.
In a couple of weeks, in an effort to get the project done faster, our contractor’s crews will work 24 hours a day. As a result, one of the two inbound lanes will periodically close during all hours except during the morning commute (6 a.m. to 9 a.m.), and one of the two outbound lanes will periodically close during all hours except during the afternoon commute (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.).
Yesterday and today, traffic delays in the area have been much worse than usual during this project. The reason for that is a large apartment fire in Squirrel Hill, which led to the closure of Forward Avenue between Beechwood Boulevard and Murray Avenue. Forward Avenue is expected to remain closed until the building can be demolished over the next few days. Further complicating matters, a utility company is doing gas line work on Beechwood Boulevard between Browns Hill Road and Forward Avenue.
The county is only doing work inbound on Browns Hill Road this week. To compensate for the traffic issues caused by the apartment demolition and gas line work, our contractor is going to delay the start of their work on Browns Hill Road until after 10 a.m. tomorrow and Friday.
