Campbells Run Road Improvement Project
Overview
Location: Campbells Run Road between McMichael Road and Keiners Lane in Collier and Robinson.
Current traffic restrictions: Periodic lane closures on Campbells Run Road between Keiners Lane and McMichael Road through the end of 2026.
Upcoming traffic restrictions: Sections of Campbells Run Road between Keiners Lane and McMichael Road will be closed to westbound/outbound traffic. Also, access to and from Campbells Run Road at Boyce Road, Glass Road, Keiners Lane, Parkway View Drive, and Vista Drive will be closed at times, requiring detours. Public Works will announce all new traffic restrictions in advance in press releases and on social media. Throughout the project, eastbound/inbound travel on Campbells Run Road will always be maintained, and two-way traffic will remain between Boyce Road and the I-376 West off-ramp (Exit 62). All homes, businesses, and commercial properties in the area will remain accessible.
Project start date: March 9, 2026
Estimated project end date: 2031
Primary construction contractor: Golden Triangle Construction
Estimated cost: $45.8 million
Project Purpose
The project will improve traffic flow and safety in this rapidly developing area of the county. More than 50 side streets and driveways between McMichael Road and Keiners Lane create bottlenecks on the existing two-lane road.
The most severe traffic congestion on Campbells Run Road occurs at Boyce Road, where westbound/outbound drivers on Campbells Run Road must wait for breaks in eastbound/inbound traffic to safely turn left onto Boyce Road and ultimately access the I-376 East entrance ramp. Traffic flow in this area is further complicated by the road’s offset intersections with Boyce Road and Parkway View Drive, the traffic signals at the I-376 West off-ramp (Exit 62), and multiple driveway access points.
Campbells Run Road also experiences frequent ponding and drainage issues. While this project will not prevent flooding caused by the adjacent Campbells Run overflowing, it will increase the roadway’s ability to drain stormwater quickly.
Scope of Work
- Reconstruction and widening of a 1.63-mile section of Campbells Run Road between McMichael Road and Keiners Lane to add a two-way center turn lane as well as left- and right-turn lanes at major intersections.
- Realignment of Boyce Road (State Route 3041) and Parkway View Drive to create a new four-way intersection with traffic signals.
- Construction of a sidewalk along Campbells Run Road between Business Center Drive and Penn Center Boulevard.
- Widening of the I-376 West off-ramp (Exit 62) to Campbells Run Road.
- Replacement of a culvert on Boyce Road and extensions of culverts on Campbells Run Road at Glass Road and Keiners Lane.
- Construction of nine retaining walls.
- Construction of two stormwater management basins.
- Installation of new roadway drainage, curb, guide rail, signs, and pavements markings – including bike sharrows.
- Upgrades to traffic signals at existing signalized intersections.
- Utility relocations, adjustments, and upgrades.

Anonymous asked about 2 months agoWe do not yet have a timeline for when access to and from Campbells Run Road at Vista Drive will be closed nor when Campbells Run Road westbound/outbound will be closed at/near Vista Drive. Initially, we planned for that to occur during an early phase of the project – in either 2027 or 2028 – but our timeline is currently in flux due to delays in the steel needed to construct nine retaining walls as part of the project. When those traffic restrictions are implemented, they will be continuous – 24 hours a day, seven days a week – for months.
Reliable access to the Parkway West Business Park will be maintained at all times throughout the project. When access to and from Campbells Run Road at Vista Drive is closed and Campbells Run Road westbound/outbound is closed at/near Vista Drive, drivers will need to access the business park by going eastbound/inbound on Campbells Run Road and turning left onto Parkway View Drive.

James Stocker asked about 2 months agoMr. Stocker,
Thanks for reaching out.
Access to 800 Vista Park Drive will be maintained at all times throughout the project.
Through the rest of this year, there will continue to be periodic lane closures on Campbells Run Road between Keiners Lane and McMichael Road. Traffic at those closures will be controlled by flaggers.
During future phases of the project, sections of Campbells Run Road between Keiners Lane and McMichael Road will be closed to westbound/outbound traffic. Also, access to and from Campbells Run Road at Vista Drive, Boyce Road, Glass Road, Keiners Lane, and Parkway View Drive will be closed at times, requiring detours. The county will announce all new traffic restrictions in advance in press releases and on social media.
When a section of Campbells Run Road westbound/outbound is closed, traffic will be detoured using Mansfield Boulevard, Chestnut Street, Academy Street, and I-376.
When access to and from Campbells Run Road at Vista Drive is closed, traffic will be detoured using Parkway View Drive, the Parkway West Business Park, and Mar Vista Drive.

Share Are there any plans to help increase safety in the more residential areas adjacent to Campbells Run during construction as there will likely be an increase in traffic as drivers try to navigate around the closures and additional traffic? I’ve personally already had some near misses at the intersection of Tidball Rd and McCormick/McMichael Rd where drivers have blown through the stop sign on the McCormick Rd side. That is especially dangerous for drivers turning onto Tidball from the McMichael side since there is no stop sign for traffic in that direction. An additional “Stop Ahead” sign or something similar to help increase awareness may help to mitigate some of the risk at that intersection. on Facebook Share Are there any plans to help increase safety in the more residential areas adjacent to Campbells Run during construction as there will likely be an increase in traffic as drivers try to navigate around the closures and additional traffic? AnonymousLocalResident asked 5 months agoThank you for reaching out, and sorry it has taken so long for us to respond. We needed to look into this further.
There are no plans as part of this project to make changes in the residential areas near Campbells Run Road, and those areas are not part of our planned detour routes. Also, Allegheny County does not own and maintain Tidball Road, McCormick Road, and McMichael Road. Tidball Road is owned/maintained by Robinson Township. McMichael Road and McCormick Road are owned/maintained by PennDOT.
We forwarded your message to PennDOT. They indicated that they have received a couple of calls regarding the intersection of those three roads during the past few weeks. Their Operations and Safety Unit plans to review the area to determine if there are any improvements that can be made.
If you want to follow up with PennDOT about this, please call their District 11 office at 412-429-5000.

Work is expected to begin soon in front of Vesuvius. An extension of the Glass Road culvert near the former Outlet Barn is one of the first construction activities that will occur. That work will require short-term single-lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Vesuvius will remain accessible from both directions on Campbells Run Road during the culvert extension work. However, drivers should expect delays in the area.
Also, before and after the culvert extension work this year, there will be underground and overhead utility relocations near Vesuvius and other locations on Campbells Run Road between McMichael Road and Keiners Lane. That work also will require periodic lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Duquesne Light has indicated to us that no electricity outages in the area of Vesuvius are expected as part of their relocation work.
From 2027-2031, different sections of Campbells Run Road will be closed to westbound traffic, while eastbound traffic will always be allowed. We currently anticipate that the westbound closure in front of Vesuvius will start in early 2027, but that is subject to change. When that closure is implemented, drivers will need to reach Vesuvius from the west. For example, drivers could take the "To Ridge Road" Exit 61 off-ramp from the Parkway West (I-376) and then turn right onto Campbells Run Road to head east toward Vesuvius. When drivers leave Vesuvius, they will be have to head east in the direction of Carnegie.
We do not yet know when that westbound closure will be implemented or exactly how long it will take before that section is fully reopened. Our construction contractor has not yet scheduled that far in advance. Prior to any new traffic restrictions being implemented as part of this project, the county will update this webpage, issue a press release, send out an Allegheny Alert, and post the information on social media.

pghdjbrian asked 6 months agoThank you for reaching out, and we appreciate your good suggestion about messaging!
This project will take five years because of its extensive scope of work, the significant utility relocations required, the need to perform much of the work during warm-weather months, and the fact that construction must be completed in sections and in a specific sequence. This approach prevents the full closure of Campbells Run Road and ensures that the many homes and businesses along Campbells Run Road and its connecting streets remain accessible throughout the project.
For example, crews will reconstruct Campbells Run Road one section and one side of the road at a time, and they will not close Parkway View Drive and Glass Road simultaneously.

Rob asked 6 months agoThank you for reaching out!
The westbound closure of Campbells Run Road will shift during the project, depending on where work is occurring. However, drivers will always be able to travel in both directions on Campbells Run Road between Boyce Road and the I-376 West off-ramp (Exit 62) throughout the project. That section includes Parkway View Drive. So, for most of the project, you will be able to take a left from the I-376 West off-ramp and then turn right from Campbells Run Road onto Parkway View Drive.
The one exception to that is when Parkway View Drive will be shifted to where Boyce Road connects to Campbells Run to create one single four-way intersection. During that work, you will need to take a right from the I-376 West off-ramp and then turn left from Campbells Run Road onto Glass Road to reach Parkway View Drive.
