AOT would save my brother’s life
My family and I have been fighting quietly and tirelessly for my twin brother’s wellbeing. He lives with manic schizophrenia, and without consistent treatment he becomes a danger to himself and, unintentionally, to others. The heartbreaking reality is that the current laws make it nearly impossible for us to keep him on the medication that stabilizes him and keeps him safe.
We desperately need Assisted Outpatient Treatment. Not only for him, but for our city, and truly for our country. Mental illness is rising, yet our systems have not evolved to meet this crisis. With court-supported structure, my brother would finally have the stability to stay on his antipsychotic medication. He could get the care he urgently needs, rebuild his life, and return to being the loving person we know is still there beneath the illness.
We are simply asking for a system that protects him and protects our community before something irreversible happens. With AOT, that is finally achievable.
