Overview

The Allegheny County Climate Action Plan (CAP) will include ways to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change, including strategies for county government and for the county as a whole. Part of this initiative aims to create new jobs, help people save money on energy bills, support local businesses, protect parks and natural areas, and improve people's health. All of this will make life better for everyone in Allegheny County.

From April 2025 to July 2026, the Allegheny County Sustainability Department will work with a team of experts to create its first Climate Action Plan (CAP). The process is designed to engage people who live in the county, local organizations, business owners, and government agencies. Informed by community input and robust data analysis, the team will create a plan that is aspirational yet achievable.

Partnering organizations in the planning efforts include ICF, evolveEA, Allen & Shariff, Black Girl Green World, and Na'Toria.

Community Engagement Opportunities

Help shape the future of Allegheny County by making your voice heard! Hearing from as many Allegheny County residents, organizations, businesses, and public agencies as possible is a critical priority in the CAP process. This will help to ensure that the CAP is a roadmap that reflects community priorities and needs. The engagement process will include a mixture of CAP-specific virtual and in-person opportunities as well as attendance at existing community meetings and events throughout Allegheny County.

The Phase II survey will be released in October 2025, which will focus on how the region can meet the vision and values set by the community during Phase I. Please check back soon for the survey or join the Department of Sustainability at an upcoming event or one of the public meetings to provide feedback in person.

Upcoming Public Meetings

The Department of Sustainability will be hosting a series of public meetings for the community to provide direct feedback and hear how the development of the Climate Action Plan will impact the future of Allegheny County.

Translation services will be available for all of the meetings, and attendees will be entered to win a raffle prize. Food and childcare will be provided at in-person meetings.
